My love for Comic's

From the Myth Master's Team's Desk.....

I was checking my favorite comic book author's website and found this post:

I grew up in San Marino, California. It is a conservative, wealthy suburb of Los Angeles.

It has a lot of rules, or at least did when I grew up there.

For example, when I was there, you could not park on the street overnight (without first calling the police department and getting permission). You could not pump your own gas (the attendant at the station had to pump it for you). You could not blow or wash your leaves into the street.

McDonald’s were not allowed. Nor were movie theatres. And you could get a ticket for jaywalking (as my sister did from a police officer who was hiding in the nearby bushes). I have feared jaywalking ever since.

It is all about preserving status quo.

And it is not a land of surprises.

Fast forward 30 years.

To midnight in Baghdad.

Where I, child of San Marino, am standing outside the palace of Saddam Hussein. The air is warm and still. It is tinged with a hint of smoke.

Next to me is Doonesbury creator Garry Trudeau.

We are hitting a bucket of golf balls into Saddam Hussein’s lake.

“Who gets the balls out of the lake?” I ask the soldier who gave us the bucket.

“We don’t,” she said.

Of course, I think to myself.

In war, no one retrieves the golf balls.

I immediately imagine the island of golf balls that must be forming at the deepest depths of Saddam’s lake. One day it will crest above the surface, like a coral island made of Titleist.

While this is happening outside the palace, cartoonist Mike Peters is inside, looking for someone who can fix our room’s thermostat. He finds a two-star general. The man is in charge of 22,000 soldiers. But we are chilly and we need him to fix our thermostat.

If that’s not far enough from the pristine lawns of San Marino for you, consider this:

Twenty yards to the left of me is editorial cartoonist Mike Ramirez. He has won two Pulitzer Prizes. But he is not drawing that night. No, Mike Ramirez is feeding Cocoa Puffs to Saddam Hussein’s fish.

And these are not normal fish. They are ugly, scary fish. Some appear to be five-feet long. I assume they’re eating golf balls.

One of the soldiers shows us a video of a duck landing on the surface of the lake. A fish ate him. In Baghdad, even the fish are evil.

I hit a long drive.

Watching the golf ball ascend, I see in the distance the faint silhouette of a Blackhawk helicopter. It is firing its guns. It is a deep boom you feel in your rib cage.

I cannot sleep that night. All ten of us cartoonists have to sleep in the same room in five bunk beds. We end up sleeping with the light on, because not one of can remember to turn it off. So I now know the answer to the joke, “How many cartoonists does it take to turn off a light bulb?” It is something more than ten.

I walk outside at 6 a.m. and hit more golf balls. The air is grayish brown.

I’m a long way from San Marino.

And I am not afraid of jaywalking.

This cracked me up. You should check out his blog sometime, it's pretty awesome. Well I got to go to sleep now, because of stupid, stupid, school.

Garage Sale Day Deals

From the Myth Master's Team's Desk.....

Hello!
So today, in my neighbor, it is the famous Sheryl's Garage Sale Day. Once a year, houses get old junk and sell it from their garages.

It's so awesome. You usally find some really cool things.

Today, I was walking a few streets over and I see these cassette tapes, and Amber showed me how to make a wallet out of cassette tape that looks like this: (She made it)

Cool, rite?

So I see one that's selling cassette tapes, and the person's like "Oh, you can have them for free. The dude who bought them was Spanish and he didn't need English tapes."

Woot! Thank you Spanish guy! So I just picked up a few including this one:

Why was it free? I don't know.

Wizard101, throughout my time

From the Myth Master's Team's Desk.....

Hello all. First here's a little general info: I joined the game at the end of October 2008, I beat the game in June, 2009.

So what's my point??

I've been playing for almost a YEAR of being a grandmaster. I've watched as they introduced Grizzleheim, for younger wizards, I've made alt's with no success, the Bazaar, so YOUNGER wizards can grab their gear, with no problem at all, I saw as you could buy mounts, and then wings later on and I watched as younger players could grab houses and housing items.

US, wizards had to farm till we fall asleep for that gear. We got barely ANYTHING from doing quests besides gold, and XP. We did side quests till it hurt, to level up. We had to narrowly escape monsters in the MB streets, and MS ninja pigs.

Do you see where I'm going??

All the younger kids, get everything handed to them which makes them weaker. Us "ancient" wizards are tougher, because we're simply used to dissapointment.

Sure, these feature's are great, but whats in the near future?? I don't know but, sometimes I wish that I could erase all these features, and have it like it used to be.

My other point??

I've played Wizard101 being a GM, for about a year now, with nothing to do. I feel like I'm a "Pretty", from the book Pretties by Scot Whethersfield. Once you get out of being an "ugly" (like a younger wizard) You get turned into a bubbly teenager with amazing clothes, ton of gold, and after that, you're only objective is to have fun, and party.

Sound familier?? That's right it's the role that us GM's play. I'm not saying younger players are ugly, that's how they we're like in the book "Uglies.

The whole point: I think the younger players are getting everything handed to them on a plate, and Wizard101 in becoming kinda boring, with no updates for us.

Well that's it.

P.S. Autumn can we meet at 11:00 central, by Dworgyn on Wu area 1?? If you read this too late, we can boost it up to 1:00 central.

Earth Day and Welcome back Autumn!!

From the Myth Master's Team's Desk.....

First off: WELCOME BACK AUTUMN!! :D As you might know, Autumn was a HUGE help to my blog. Sadly though, I deleted her like a month ago.... :( Autumn, is there anyway we could meet again? If so, leave a comment on this post... Anyways, WELCOME BACK TO THE BLOGSPHERE!! WE MISSED YOU!!

Second: Today is EARTH DAY!! :D Sadly, it rained, but don't worry, while I was soaking wet, in the rain, I hugged a tree.

I also downloaded around 6 apps for my I-pod Touch about going green. I also wore my special Earth Day shirt. (It says, Good Monkey, Bad Monkey, SAVE ENERGY!)

While MOST of us our worried about pollution, (or in Jessica's case, trees) I worry about another thing. Light Pollution. I already wrote about it on this literary website, but I'll paste it on here so you can read it.

"I'm writing this article today on a very important, but very ignored topic. Light Pollution.

I found out about light pollution, through a realistic fiction book Every Soul a Star. It says how this guy in the suburbs can't see the constallations cause of light pollution and how this girl who grew up stargazing won't be able to see them cause of light pollution. Overall it's a very good book. Stop by and read it sometime.

I went to Chicago for the night one weekend I look out my window around midnight and gasp at the sight. The sky is a blackish brownish, not the usual dark royal navy I'm used to. The moon completly disapeared and the stars were gone.

When I got back to my suburbs close to St. Louis I glance up at the sky, hoping to at least see the moon, that I had once loved so dearly. But it like the rest of things dissrupted from pollution, had disapeared too.

Finally on New Years Eve I look up and see my trusty moon shining bright, with a couple of dimly lit constallations.

I speak out about light pollution, because I remember star gazing at that same home, with everything shining bright, less than a few years ago.

Light pollution is started by street lamps, lit billboard advirtising signs, lit city buildings, christmas lights and more.

Light pollution doesn't just harm us , but little baby sea turtles too. When the sea turtles hatch they rely on the moon's light to guide them to sea. With no moon light, thanks to light pollution, means that turtle's lives will be lost.

The sky doesn't need to be lit. It has it's own light, the moon, stars, glaxies, nebulas, and planets to name a few.

Unlike other pollutions, light pollution can be easily stopped. Just turn off lights when you're not in a room, or turn off flood lights in the summer, when you have tiki torches lit up.

By doing these small steps, we can stop light pollution, and let the future generation see the wonders of space."

Like it?? Well I have to go, but here's a small earth day token!!

It's me in the blue halterback, Autumn in the backgroud, a newly planted tree, Van in the white one, and Ronan looks like a clown. Whoopsies.

Anyways, have fun hugging tree's in the rain!!

-Amber StarGem

P.S. I hugged Ian, the Myth Tree today, and ruined my Dragonspyre clothes by getting his eye salvia on them.

Creativity spasm

From the Myth Master's Team's Desk.....

Hello!
You know what I love?
When you owe someone five bucks and then they forget.

You know what I hate?
When you owe someone five bucks and they remember again.

Anyhow, this is my creativity spasm! Some things I made out of duck tape and playing cards. Actually, very easy to make. But no, I did not make that Buddha statue, haha, that was from Asian Gifts at the mall. Amber and I got it when we saw a movie over spring break. Totally beast store they sell ninja swords and ninja stars. But sadly you have to be 18. Amber was closely looking at the knives for 14.99. Lol. She and I made the playing card stuff at her house on Sunday. It was pretty cool, seeing as we usually aren't that skilled at that kind of thing.

Peace out,
Van

P.S. If you want me to show you how to make it I can(:

Happy Unicorn Day!

From the Myth Master's Team's Desk.....

Today is Unicorn Day, April 14. I made this holiday "officail" about 2-3 years ago. Well, on wizard101, you must wear your unicorn all day, or you shall be cursed. If you do not have a unicorn, buy one! The 2 Unicorn Gods, Bentley and Charlie are celebrated today, I have them in my backpack, so around me, use your unicorn or you shall be Uni-Smited!

HAPPY UNICORNING!

OH. MY. ZING.

From the Myth Master's Team's Desk.....

Twitter, and all the blogs are chaotic right now. Why?? Either...

A: The new Celestia wallpaper that came out

OR

B: The update that, MIGHT maybe mean the opening of the Test Realm.

I know I've been told to not get my hopes up, but I just can't resist. They said the pet's update will come out in SPRING. Even though spring was about a month ago, you never know.

You also never know if Kingsisle MAY be lying. I'm pretty sure they're not, but it MAY be a late April Fool's joke.

Like I said, you never know.

Ze Patiently Waiting,

Lookin Back..

From the Myth Master's Team's Desk...

Ok, I'm writing this during a Malistaire Run, and 11 at night but I simply, DO. NOT. CARE!

I was inspired by Alia's post about looking back (heheh I just squished a little fly that was on my monitor, ANYWHOOOO) So I wanted to tell MY story...

*Flashback...* (Gee this blog has a bunch of Flashbacks)

One day at the end of September, a girl saw a commercial for a game called Wizard101. She simply thought, like all other commericals about games, that it was a scam. Until...

her best friend, went over to her house, and brought up Wizard101. The girl was shocked, as she ranted on and on about schools, and quests, and such such.

Now let me tell you, this girl was in LOVE with the Harry Potter, and all things magic, but she was still doubtfull.

Then came Halloween, she went over to that same friend's house for Halloween. Before they went Trick-or-Treating, they went to the friends computer. She showed her, her person, who she named Vanessa Sunrider, with red hair, and blue/green eyes, and in the school of storm.

The girl clicked on create a new person, then chose the best look, (hair down), and black hair, to look wizardish. She then chose the same face as Vanessa and her colors were light blue and black.

She didn't take the test, she just chose the coolest one, which was Myth. A few days later she had it downloaded on her computer, and soon enough became the wizard as Amber StarGem.

*End flashback*

I started blogging last year at the end of May, and my colors are black and light blue. I love to relive the moments on Unicorn Way, etc., etc., with my alts. It's like walking down memory lane.

Here's the first picture I ever took at the VERY first Meet, and Greet:

Aren't I hideous??

I know

I know

I still have that outfit, believe it or not. I was a grandmaster then, AND grizzleheim was out.

First time I blogged NO ONE visited so I quitted. Then Allan (Fair Pyromancer) saw my blog, and the rest, well is history.

Well thats it,

-Amber StarGem

Happy happy Easter!

From the Myth Master's Team's Desk.....
Hey!
First of all, I hope everyone here has had a very happy Easter. I did, it mostly involving just hanging out with my cousin ... but, a down point, I did a cartwheel and then a round off in heels ... OUCH! My ankle hurts really bad.
Other than that, it was a lot of fun, just hanging out with family, goofing off as usual, playing sports.
That's a thing about my family. You have to be good at sports and play them a lot ... it's just something we do. Mine is swimming, but I still play basketball, volleyball, and baseball just with my cousins. We have a lot of weird things like that ... maybe that's how I got so weird I:
How were your Easters? Tell me about 'em :D
